Ambien and Alcohol – Why You Shouldn’t Mix
One of the most common pieces of advice given to Ambien users is to refrain from using alcohol in any form while under the influences of the drug. Some users tend to disregard this piece of advice and indulge themselves in a party while they’re still undergoing an Ambien treatment. And what is the outcome in such a situation? Not so good.
Why it’s so bad
There are several substances out there that Ambien reacts very negatively to, and should never be mixed with. Barbiturates fall into that list, and alcohol on the other hand is a barbiturate – or a substance which sedates you.
Combining Ambien with such substances leads to an exaggeration in its effects, which can cause you to lose control over yourself, and eventually even lose consciousness. Alcohol is especially dangerous here, as it alone can bring about some severe consequences, and using it when you’re under Ambien’s effects can lead to the exaggeration of those effects, making you very uncontrollable and unpredictable.
It gets worse when you add in a preexisting medical condition in your body – if you’re predisposed to certain health risks, you’re much more likely to be subjected to negative side effects when combining alcohol with Ambien.
Should I avoid anything else?
There are other substances which can have similar effects on you. Stay away from any and all drugs that are related to sleepiness or relaxation – this includes not only medically certified and legal drugs, but recreational ones as well. What you do with your health normally is your own concern, but at least try not to combine these things with Ambien if you’re thinking of your own good.
If you forget that you’ve taken Ambien and do take alcohol, first stop the consumption immediately. The best thing to do in this case is to wait it out and see if something bad starts to happen – if you begin to feel nauseous, immediately try to vomit. The one thing you should avoid at all costs is falling asleep, so it’s good to have someone by your side to give you support while you’re going through this. It can be a difficult experience if you catch yourself too late, but you can get through it if you pull together. Get to a doctor as soon as you can and let them know what you’ve used exactly.
